Association for Women with Social Problems (AWSP) in cooperation with the Swedish organization “Operation 1325”, supported by the Embassy of Kingdom of the Netherlands in Albania, organized the activities for the presentation of the project in Durres Region. The events were held on 17th and 18th of February 2016, in "Conference Hall" at Palace Hotel, Durres. In these activities participated in total 60 participants. This project aims to ensure that women's rights, particularly in peace and security areas in Albania are protected by the enforcement of national and international legislation. The project aims to increase the commitment of policy- makers, to strengthen the advocacy role of civil society, and raise public awareness, to accelerate the implementation of Resolution 1325 of the United Nations, through improved processes, action plans and monitoring mechanisms. This initiative will be focused in particular to three districts, including Durres, Elbasan and Korça. The event was attended by the representative of the Swedish organization “Operation 1325”, partner in this project, Ms. Annika Schabbauer.

The event brought together high representatives of the Regions of Durres, Korça and Elbasan, heads of state institutions and affiliates of the association to discuss this initiative as well as the importance and responsibilities coming from Resolution 1325 of the United Nations. Participants discussed the coordination opportunities of the activities planned under the project and the ways how to expand the impact of this initiative. On February 17th, it was held a working dinner attended by, Esmeralda Shkjau deputy, Chief of Cabinet of the Regional Council of Durres Mr. Arben Isaku, Secretary General of the Prefecture of Durres Mr. Shyqyri Ballgjini, Director of Social Services at the Municipality of Durres Mrs. Meme Xhaferraj, and other representatives of local institutions in Durres, as well as representatives of civil society and media. Also, the event was attended by the Head of Korça Region, Ms. Ana Verushi, and the Region Council's Advisor in Korça Mr. Vangjush Dishnica. On February 18th, an "Informative Session: Resolution 1325 " was organized, which was attended by representatives of local government in Durres, Korca and Elbasan.

Region of Elbasan was represented by Deputy Head of the Regional Council and other staff members of this institutions. In addition to the participants of Korca and Elbasan Region, in the meeting were invited also Durres local actors from the local government, the judiciary, police, health, civil society and media. Alongside the launch of the project, the participants through working groups analyzed the situation of women in the Albanian context, issues of security, protection and women rights, by identifying needs for improvement. The event was covered in local media, like Adria Net and NTV.
